Diva Satanica: A fúria

Melodic Death Metal

[English] D.A.M: The dark side of the mind.

Interviewed by: Caterine Souza

D.A.M:

Vocals: Guilherme de Alvarenga
Guitarist: Edu Megale
Guitarist: Tomás Campos
Bass: Caio Campos

Gênero: Melodic Death Metal

The band D.A.M once again managed to find a space in their busy career to do an interview with G.Grind and here is this great interview posted in Oroborus.

Caterine 1: Hello, guys. First, thank you for giving in a little bit of your time for this interview. When looking for information on the band, we faced the fact that the band was a solo project of William Alvarenga, right? How were the procedures for selecting other members?

Alvarenga: It was a balance between affinity and technical capacity, D.A.M's music is very difficult, and then the level of the musicians needs to be high to join the band. However it is not enough just to have bonds of friendship that think in a similar way towards a common goal are crucial for a band without the band it stagnates!

Caterine 2: We all carry the example of those bands that affect us forever. What are the musical influences of each of you and how it influenced the compositions for D.A.M?

Alvarenga: The D.A.M compositions has the edge over other bands. Aware of the fact that everything is written by one person, it affects the sound as it brings a control and gigantic units, is a very strong symmetry! I had as main influences all my studies at the college of music and many bands like Nightwish, Wintersun, Children of Bodom and so on haha such a giant list.

Caterine 3: The mix of the aggressiveness of death metal with classical music techniques became undoubtedly a good idea for D.A.M. This occurs naturally in the composition process?

Alvarenga: Yes and no! But because it is very spontaneous to apply certain types of techniques for me and not because some of these techniques require some planning, so that sounds so balanced it is not "natural".

Caterine 4: Each album appears different from the previous ones is the mix of clean vocals with guttural and harsh or even the speed and rhythm of the tracks. However, in the case of D.A.M the keyboard is highlighted as a mark of the band in any of its songs. How perfectly fit all other instruments to it?

Alvarenga: I am surprised by your question haha because for me D.A.M's stars are guitars. Whenever I compose them I think a lot really like the sound! When only one person thinks and composes it's easier because you will think of each instrument as a part of a whole thing without the need to "adapt" to the instruments that sound balanced as this is planned from the beginning!

Caterine 5: Still on details, observing the artwork of each of the covers of the albums, D.A.M realizes a peculiar pattern: checkerboard floor in all of them. What does that mean?

Alvarenga: I love chess! Hahaha! Well, part of D.A.M's mysteries is that answer has to do with balance!

Caterine 6: A special feature of mine is to be fond of band logos and the way they are designed. What can you tell us about how you created a logo for D.A.M?

Alvarenga: I was a music teacher for my good friend Rafael Torres. I offered to teach him for a year in exchange for the artwork of the EP ‘Possessed’. I thought the logo was included but it was not haha, so I offered an intensive counterpoint to him in exchange for the logo. The logo reflects the D.A.M features, from the meaning of the name until the relationship with the occult and classical music!

Caterine 7: Talking about acceptance, how the public in the region faces the sound you make?

Alvarenga: It is a very big new thing for them yet, but in general, people enjoy and are very impressed, thinking we are from another country!

Caterine 8: And internationally?

Alvarenga: Very good, we received many e-mails, photos and messages from people asking us to do shows on their land. They are very attentive!

Caterine 9: What are the plans for this second semester of 2015?

Alvarenga: To release the newest EP ‘Premonitions’ ... and tour in South America, starting in Argentina on November 14th!

Caterine 10: And to close this interview, we thank you once again for talking to us from G.Grind blog and leave this final space with you.

Alvarenga: I thank the space and support ever given to us by G.Grind and invite this blog’s readers to know our Facebook page and our video clip for the song ‘Reborn from the Shadows’. Thanks for the support everyone!

D.A.M: O lado obscuro da mente.

Entrevista por: Caterine Souza
D.A.M

Vocalista/Tecladista: Guilherme de Alvarenga
Guitarrista: Edu Megale
Guitarrista: Tomás Campos
Baixista: Caio Campos

Caterine 8: E internacionalmente?

Alvarenga: Muito boa, recebemos muitos e-mails, fotos e mensagens do pessoal elogiando e pedindo shows na terra deles!

[English] Kernaoth: The Call from Dark Horizons

Melodic Black Metal

Originally written in Portuguese by Renan Martins

Translated to English by Caterine Souza

The underground hides many wonders, incredible quality bands that make you want to listen over and over. One of the bands that manages to present impeccable quality within the Black Metal world is Kernaoth.

This amazing band was born in France and can carry the flag of the country in the best possible way and with just two works, the band makes clear its value and power.

The band has a demo titled "Beyond Our Sight" which came out via independent in 2009. And an album titled "The Call from Dark Horizons" which came out via independent too in 2011. This last work won a larger space and more impactful in the underground world.

“The Call from Dark Horizons” is a true masterpiece of the band, an album that manages to bring the classic sound of Melodic Black Metal and more rustic features of Black Metal and right away on the track entitled "Nakti Khor" the band has shown more rustic side of Black Metal, but with a way to compose with excellence that can leave the living melody in all times.

The song has a bass that is alive all the time, a bass that can bring the night to the music and night music becomes even more interesting by the atmosphere it creates. The guitar does not leave at any time lacking energy and vocal, which is a great quality, with his harsh vocals, makes it even more amazing.

“I Am Your Hunter” is the second song on the album and it has a beginning extremely pulling the Melodic Black Metal, but the vocal shows itself more highlighted, able to show a side of rustic Demos Black Ancient Metal, but has great quality. The drums appear to bring a very interesting versatility. Working with a dual pedal most of the time and it does not get quickly to the extreme to even resemble the Death Metal, but it is fast enough to create an atmosphere of impeccable destruction and making music become even better.

This album really knows how to do a unique job and very nice while it can be destructive.
It’s not for all the band out there being this able to make an album start so complete like this, since the third song is different and very genius. "The Day I Born" you get from your guitar melody that it can be totally enjoyable even if you have an open vocal of a very necro harsh. The drums appear working fine to get it much alive with those plates in music and in this range an instrument gains too much power. The keyboard appears bringing an atmosphere even more obscure and magnificent. “The Day I Born” is one of the best, if not the one best song of the album, because on this track their quality is destructive.

The quality of the album does not stay low at any time, and this time the song "Monster Show" appears. This is one that you can explore more and more because of the keyboard and its intro that can change the mood of the music and make the atmosphere a little bizarre, but with high quality and sarcasm in such quality and intensity.

Kernaoth was able to show in this one album their quality, creativity and feeling for the music they were creating. Actually, we can call it the band of the Night Entity.

Kernaoth: The Call from Dark Horizons

Melodic Black Metal

[English] Irina Sidenko: The guttural destroyer of Russia

Death Metal

Originally written in Portuguese by Renan Martins

Translated to English by Caterine Souza

Russia always comes out with good bands, but there is a point that can change everything in the scene of this heavy, brutal and destructive death metal band named Dehydrated.

The quality of the band is something really amazing, great music, the weight is fully compatible with Death Metal, the individual quality of each member makes the band achieve an even more interesting level within the genre, but the destructive machine of souls, the creature eating planets really is the lead singer Irina Sidenko which has a technical and a really distinctive voice.

Many bands have started to invest in women for the vocals, and Irina Sidenko is one that can break all the chains, her guttural is really destructive managed to put some men to lick her floor by her power and technique. But one singer can not only have a powerful voice, so Sidenko is a really complete vocalist, a great stage presence, a very beautiful woman and a very destructive one.

Dehydrated has one demo, two albums, one split, one EP and one single, all of them have excellent quality and great taste and leaving always a highlight for the album ‘Zone Beneath the Skin’, an album that has no fairness. It’s a violent work that has excellent melodies and vocal as incredible as. ‘Zone Beneath the Skin’ came via HeadXplode Records in 2012 and so far can be considered the masterpiece of this band that has everything to grow further and showing that the strength of a singer can never be underestimated.

From this band you can expect a beautifully produced work, drums that has the speed needed to make music something not tiring and can bring extreme weight also, a guitar that appears every moment bringing an electrifying sound and a bass that is not hidden at any time, really a full band and that can carry the banner of Russia as best as possible.

At live gigs the band can have class and be a killer too. Irina can be sensuously evil with her screams and her stage presence. Dehydrated songs can also gain more weight with pig squeal done on a few songs, an excellent example is one of the best songs of the band ‘NE (of the) W’. That's a reflection of the end of the world and can show all the best from each one of the band members.

Irina Sidenko: O destruidor gutural da Rússia

Death Metal
